Still here ... Did you have to ask? :)

Sorry for the absence. Work life here has been quite demanding -- still is for that matter.

Since our last visit some things have happened ...

Bill K came to ATL for a visit to attend a medical seminar. We visited both Thursday and Friday night, having dinner and lots of time for comment.

This past weekend, members of the gang came a-calling for the annual Dixie Classic bowling tourney. While our scores were not the best - at least on the bowling lanes ;) - we had a lot of fun visiting, eating, drinking, and stuff. The only down side to this was the fact that Mike wasn't here due to emergency surgery. (NOTE: Mike, glad you are feeling better. We missed your presence, and I really missed you.)

At the banquet (served as brunch), I was the only one to win anything - a $100 raffle drawing. All in all a nice event.

Oh, I left out a small item. Prior to the banquet, I told Princess that I was "scared" that we would win last place due to our stellar performance on Saturday morning. (BRIEF RECAP: Lloyds back was hurting and he was drugged, really drugged; Princess spent the Friday running the bowling center concourse and got to bed about 3:30 am - that morning; I didn't get to the room until 5 a.m. and had 2 and 1/2 hours sleep; Bob was, well, Bob. NOTE: I believe he had the high individual score for the first game!) Being "connected" as he was to the tournament committee, P said that everything would be mailed, that he was not aware of such a presentation. I only smiled.

When the time came, you guessed it, we finished dead last among 76 teams. We made a good show and received a lovely package of bowling supplies. (Note to Bob and Lloyd - Ed will bring your packets to you.)

There is more about the weekend, but I guess the old adage is true: What goes on in Atlanta, stays in Atlanta."*

Smooches!

* Except when it's about Princess. ;-)

A thought ...

Sometimes I get a little wordy, but with regards to the loss of someone I considered a friend, the group has provided an excellent guide ... simplicity.

CJ was simply someone who did not hesitate to let you know where he stood and how he thought. That is quite rare in what has become a cynical, jaded world. While he is at peace in a better place, our world lost a special part and that ticks me off.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Rick, the bowling league, and especially the gang. Be sure to make a lot of noise on his behalf.

Still here ... after being up there a while! :)

Just a few notes ...

The trip to sister Barb's was excellent. Got together with the niece Pam and enjoyed a day of eating and shopping. The sister has gone bead crazy ... meaning that she is doing the craft stuff. I thought we'd never get out of Michael's.

Returned to find plenty of work. One member of the staff who has been out of office since the Semester Break has returned, YAH!!!!!! While we finish Winter Break we are beginning to look at the down side of our mountain to Memorial Day. WOW!

I'm glad to see that Jenn did not get stopped by the metal detector at the airport on her return and is safely back with us. So Jenn, did you get the weight of the stuff that they added? I mean afterall that becomes part of what the scales measure. ;)

Finally, since there is no international competition for the Academy Awards on Sunday among the group, I herewith offer my picks for the big Oscars (I'll be proud to go zero for what ever).

Best Picture - never saw Million Dollar Baby (maybe will) or Aviator (no way). Did see Sideways (cool!) and Neverland (Jonny Depp - yum). - The pick - based on what I've read - Million Dollar Baby.

Best Director - Clint Eastwood (cause when he was Rowdy Yeats on Rawhide he was ... yum! too many fond memories)

Best actor - Jamie Foxx (I never thought I would ever say this - sorta like Steven Segal getting it) for Ray (never saw it - maybe will - based on reviews and suggestions)

Best Actress - I like Annette Benning (haven't seen the movie, would like to) but have seen Vera Drake. Stanton is superb. I'm going with Stanton.

Best Supporting Actor - Everyone says it's between Morgan Freeman and Clive Owen (I'd pick him cause I'd do him) however, I've always really liked Thomas Hayden Church since his Wings days (remember fond memories?) and really liked him again in Sideways. I'll pick him here as well.

Best Supporting Actress - Basically a two person race between Natalie Portman for Closer and Cate Blanchett for Aviator - two people I like in two movies I haven't seen. I like Blanchett but I go with Portman cause she was absolutely fab in Garden State.

Animated Feature - While Shrek 2 was a big box office winner, I didn't agree with those who said it was better than the original; it was good - not great. I really liked The Invincibles and will go with that flick here.

Visual effects - Spidy 2 (just for the heck of it).

If you guys gather, be sure to eat a handful of extra buttery popcorn for me and cast a vote for that nice Sally Fields and the coal miners in Applalachia (?!?!?).

Much love to all.

Still here :) - bet you didn't even miss me!

Before anything else " HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!!!" to one and all.

Things continue along down Georgia way. Weather is unpredictable, but what's new with that.

Work is busy and getting more so. While it's fun to be boss, it's also a pain dealing with some of the things I deal with here. Guess that's why I get paid. :)

Saw Wedding Date and enjoyed it immensely. Dermot Mulroney (?!?!) looks 'sweet' (watch the movie, you'll understand) and there are some good moments along the way which carry the film. While not a major "must see" I think you'll like it. Bring a few tissues.

Finally saw Sideways. Wow! I really do like Alexander Payne. This is a very cool movie. While I don't think that Thomas Hayden Church will win Best Supporting Actor, he truly deserves the nomination.

Next on my list is Neverland.

On Saturday, Feb 19, I'll be flying out to see Sister Barb and spend a few days in NC, returing on Feb 22. The ticket was just $126 round trip. Can't beat that. Initial planning is that I will use my week long holiday in July '05 to drive up and visit everyone.

Hope Jenn has a great time on her trip out west. I hope that she makes sure that she only gets one thing pierced! Maybe she should take a marker along to write "Not here!" where she doesn't want it to happen!

Much love to all. I miss each of you.

Still here ... but I'll be there soon (if only for a little while) :)

Well I think all is ready for the great trip northward --

I'll arrive in Newport News at around 9:40 a.m. or so and will get a rental for the weekend. I plan to drive to VA BEACH to the old offices, see the old gang, and have lunch with the old Lloyd (oops!?!?).

Afterward, a leisurely trip back to the city of lights (they really should do something with the old garbage dump) and drinkies at 5. I hope to see Mike and Todders before they zoom off to points Tennessee. Afterward, I may visit Friday bowling ... or not. Maybe late din-din with the Friday gang. Then to my lair for the weekend at Doug and John's.

Saturday will be a FUN day of doing the books for the investment club. Then off to an Old Dominion men's BB game with the aforementioned Doug and John.

Sunday will see brunch with the gang at HOE (hopefully) and a visit to Sunday bowling. Back to the NN Airport by 4 p.m. and back in Atlanta by 8.

Along the way, I hope to catch my breath!

Still here ... :)

I just wanted to say how much I truly enjoyed the visit by Mike and his sister. I have only known her through her comments and such, but she is delightful and wickedly funny. She plans on working her way to developing a Web site development business. I know that she will do well.

Air Tran called yesterday to tell me that the January 21 flight that I was already booked on (meaning paid!) was no longer part of the schedule of service between Atlanta and Newport News. My choices now are leaving at 7:55 a.m. and arriving at 9:28 a.m. (meaning getting to the airport by no later than six) or leaving here at 2:15 p.m. and arriving at 3:45 p.m. or some later flights. I am still pondering the matter.

I was advised Sunday that the Dixie Classic applications are up and on line.

That's it for now (exciting, huh?).

Still here .... Happy Holidays!!! (ho-ho-ho) :)

Wow! Has it been that long between posts? Sorry about that.

Just a few words to say that the holidays are history and were quite busy. A visit to Sister Barb's, a visit from Mikey and his sister were the highlights of the period, and a truly wonderful gift from that sister who drew my name were the highlights. (BTW, my second viewing of the DVD, after Mike's departure caused some misty eyes - and not just from laughter.)

Participated in a holiday bowl tournament that featured team-singles-doubles over a five game set. The format is as follows games 1,2,3 are singles, games 2,3,4 are doubles, and games 3,4,5 are team. The turnout was light due to the holidays, but it was fun. My games were 128 (trying out a new ball), 215, 187, 188, and 168. I don't think it's good enough to cash, but it was fun anyway. I joined Jeff and some people that he has gotten to know from the Wednesday loop for the tournament.

Afterward, visited a family sports bar (an oxymoron?) and got to know some of the guys from the Wednesday night league better.

The aforementioned Jeff is prepping for a medical procedure this p.m. and will miss tomorrow's bowling. I will keep you posted on the outcome.

More later, including some thoughts on what 2005 may bring.

Smooches.
